A Minimalist Montessori Home Tour: The Front Entryway

The front entryway is the first part of the home that others see when they walk in through the front door.

It's the first introduction to Minimalism and Montessori as well.

Our front entryway leads straight to our living room, kitchen, and upstairs.

Today I'm excited to share another part of our minimalist Montessori home tour!

A Minimalist Montessori Front Entryway: The Piano

The first thing anyone sees when they walk through the front door of our home is our piano and photo wall.

I am a musician. Our family loves music.

So many who visit our home sit down and play this piano. At times there are groups surrounding it, singing.

You'll notice that under the left side of the piano are headphones.

Anyone can practice, without bothering others.

This helps those with sensory sensitivities in our home.

To the left of the piano, you can see a small hallway to the kitchen where there are two rows of coat hangers, one low, and one high for children and adults alike.

It's very important to us that little ones have access to hooks that they can reach.

The photo collage is filled with memories from vacations. We will continue to add to the wall as we accumulate more photos.

These photos bring so much joy as they help us remember some of our happiest memories as a family.

A Minimalist Montessori Front Entryway at Christmas

When we first saw our home and decided to buy it, I had this vision of our beautiful large Christmas tree set up in the front entryway with stockings hanging down the staircase banister.

Anytime I think about adding items to our front entryway, the first question I ask myself is where we will put it during the Christmas season.

The piano easily moves and fits into the dining room, but anything else added to this room has no where else to go.

I love that this helps me maintain the minimalistic feel I want in the front entryway.

A Minimalist Montessori Home Tour: Christmas Night

There is nothing that is more relaxing for my family than enjoying the view of Christmas lights from the living room and outside our home.

Our Christmas tree is nicknamed our "Memory Tree."

All ornaments represent a year of each one of our lives, or are from one of our family vacations.

Other than lights, nothing else is added to the tree.

When the Christmas tree isn't in the front entryway, we've added lights to the staircase to continue promoting relaxation and joy.

(These lights were added within the last four months and aren't shown in some pictures.)

A Minimalist Front Entryway: View from Living Room

On the other side of our front entryway is a bench and shelving.

These can be seen from our living room as shown in the picture above.

Kids and adults alike enjoy using the bench when necessary.

Under the bench are baskets. There is one for each family member at home to store hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, umbrellas, etc.

The shelves above are home to the small collection of books my husband and I choose to own, as well as piano music and scripture cases for family scripture study.

I feel that every room needs a little green, so I did add plants to the top of each shelf.

Other than those few things, the front entryway remains empty as a place for the kids to do school work, and relax.

When designing a Montessori home, it's important to design plenty of space for children to work and play.

Usually at least one child in the home is in the front entryway using it however he would like.

It's a special place the kids each loves.
