Montessori Blue Series and Intermediate Language Activities are perfect for kids who are learning consonant blends paired with short vowel sounds.
These activities with free printables are especially helpful for children who are struggling to understand and master blue series concepts.
Every step is broken down to the simplest terms to help every child, no matter their skills or abilities learn to read and write, when they're developmentally ready to do so.
Sunshine has been working with these Montessori blue series activities and absolutely loved them. Her reading and writing abilities have improved and her confidence in herself has soared.
Montessori Blue Series and Intermediate Language Activities for Kids with Free Printables
The blue series activities in this post are those that focus on the short vowel sound "a." Sunshine will be progressing through all of the vowel sounds separately, so she can master them once and for all. She tends to mix up "i" and "e" quite often.
Before introducing any of the activities in this post, I first introduced picture and word cards that she matched up to introduce the vocabulary.
The picture and word cards are included in the same bundle as many of these activities are.
Blue Series First Letter Sounds and Blends Clip Cards
In this activity, Sunshine selects the proper beginning sound or blend for each word. She clips the correct answer using the mini clothespins provided.
There are twenty vocabulary words that focus on the short vowel sound "a" with various consonant sounds and blends at the beginning of words.

Blue Series Ending Sounds and Blends Clip Cards
In this activity Sunshine selects the correct ending sound or blend from the choices provided. She will mark her answer using the blue glass beads provided.
Just like the short vowel sound "a" beginning sound and blends clip cards, the ending sound clip cards include multiple blends and sounds.

Blue Series Word Clip Cards
Once Sunshine mastered the beginning and ending sounds and blends, as well as the vowel sound, I introduced her to the word clip cards.
She really enjoys figuring out every single word on each card, determining which words are real or not and which one is correct.
In this activity she used blue buttons to mark her answers.

Blue Series Fill in the Blank Picture Cards
All of the work introduced previously leads up to this activity, where Sunshine puts each part of the word together in writing.
The goal is for her to spell the word correctly. She checks her work with a control after she finishes.
