St. Patrick's Day, aka Leprechaun Day as Sunshine loves to call it, is a big deal in this house. It wouldn't be complete without St. Patrick's Day Activities in every subject, including math.
It's amazing how a holiday theme can help nonpreferred tasks become desireable. This was definitely the case with these St. Patrick's Day Math Activities!

St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Addition with Coins Clip Cards
Sunshine is proficient at addition problems using counters, when she slows down enough to make sure her counts are accurate.
Each month I've been rotating out addition and subtraction, trying to help Sunshine focus in on a different set of facts. This month we're working on adding two to single digit numbers.
The St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Addition with Coins Clip Cards have proven to be a great way to practice skills. Sunshine loves the plastic gold coins.

St Patrick's Day Hat Measuring Activity
Sunshine has been showing interest in measuring, so I thought this St. Patrick's Day measuring activity would be great to try.
I was so excited to see her learn, practice and master this skill independently down to the half inch!
Sunshine would use the ruler, measuring from the bottom to the top of each hat. She would then select the measurement card that matched the hat.

Each clip card includes the total number of pots of gold and a subtraction problem. In order to solve the problem, Sunshine uses flat white glass beads to cover the pots of gold the subtraction problem mentions. She can then find her answer by counting the pots of gold that are left.

St. Patrick's Day Editable Board Game
Sunshine is all about games she is sure to win. Games also seem to be a fun way to review information without frustration.
As part of her "morning work" aka required work, Sunshine played this game using +1, -1, +2, and -2 math facts. It was a great review for her.
Usually one marker was used. Mom or Dad would take turns rolling the die and she would count out the spaces. She would solve each problem using counters if needed, and then move on from there. Sunshine really enjoyed knowing there was an end to the activity when the team of two would win.
