Halloween Language Activities For Kids with Free Printables

Halloween Beginning Language First Letter Sound Clip Cards

Our kids and co-op friends love breaking down words into individual sounds. This activity focuses on the first letter sound of each CVC word included.

Halloween provides the perfect opportunity to dress up work with fun manipulatives to celebrate the season.

Children take a spider and place it on the correct first letter, as shown in the picture.

Halloween Beginning Language Vowel Sounds Clip Cards

Once our kids and co-op friends have mastered first letter sounds for each CVC word, we move on to the vowel sounds in each word.

Kids use flies to mark their answer on the clip card.

Halloween Beginning Language Ending Sound Clip Cards

Once kids have successfully completed work on beginning consonant sounds and middle vowel sounds, we introduce the ending sound clip cards. 

Kids use cats to mark their answer on the clip cards. (I found these mini cat figures years ago at Pier 1 Imports in a table scatter collection.)

Halloween Beginning Language CVC Clip Cards

After completing all of the sound work included in the Halloween language bundle, we introduce these CVC word cards to our kids and co-op friends.

I love watching their confidence soar as they realize they can now read simple CVC words by putting all the sounds together. 

For this activity I've chosen to use Halloween colored clothespins to mark answers, but anything you have on hand would work.

Halloween Beginning Language Moveable Alphabet Cards

After observing that a child has confidence in their letter sounds, we introduce the Halloween language moveable alphabet activity.

Depending on the child's abilities, we may use control cards or cards with only lines to ensure that the child feels success.

When printed as is, these cards work beautifully with our Kid Advance Small Moveable Alphabet. 

If printed smaller, these cards work great for writing and tracing purposes.

Halloween Beginning Language CVC Word Writing Cards

If you are looking for writing cards without lines, this next activity is perfect! Kids use a whiteboard erasable marker and write the word on the laminated card provided.

Halloween Beginning Language Picture and Word Match Up Cards

The last activity on our Halloween beginning language shelves is a picture and word matching activity. Kids can use this as a memory game or just simply match pictures to words.
