There are so many different moving parts when it comes to learning and understanding compound words!
How do you build a compound word?
How do you tell the difference between a compound word and a word that is made up of root words, suffixes, and prefixes?
Can students identify two words in sentences that should be compound words?
We are so excited to show you our Compound Word Activities for Kids. These activities have definitely helped our students master compound word concepts.
Whether your child can read well, or needs help from pictures, there's something for everyone included. Even better is that there's a free printable included!

Compound Word Puzzle Cards
I'm super excited to provide yet another way to teach children compound words, especially younger children who may struggle with reading.
When using this printable, cut out the cards, and then cut them in half on the dotted line provided. Students will then have the task of match halves to create full images.
Each half includes one word that's part of the compound word. When the puzzles are put together, the child can see what two words make the compound word.
The Montessori-inspired Compound Word Puzzle Cards are a free printable. Click on the link at the bottom of this post to obtain your copy.
We hope you find these compound word activities and printables as helpful as we have!
