FREE Montessori Expanded Notation Printable Pack 2

In the Montessori preschool setting, children work with numbers through 9,999.

Montessori elementary students work with numbers through 999,999,999.

When learning expanded notation, it's extremely important to have students practice numbers through 999,999,999 so they can get used to the language, and feel more comfortable with the large numbers in general.

For many students, learning and working with such large numbers is extremely exciting.  It's all about the big picture!

To aid in the process of learning expanded notation with large numbers, I've created the FREE Montessori Expanded Notation Printable Pack 2.

FREE Montessori Expanded Notation Printable Pack

We've noticed that though we've presented math concepts, practiced them, and mastered them previously, sometimes kids just forget. A review is in order.  Such has been the case with numeration concepts.

As we're working on multiplying and dividing large numbers, some of the kids have forgotten how to read the numbers in the problem.  It's our hope that this FREE Montessori Expanded Notation Printable Pack will be the perfect review and build their skills back up.

This printable pack can also be used when introducing expanded notation, not just for review.

The FREE Montessori Expanded Notation Printable Pack is designed to help kiddos build numbers 0-9,999.  It can be used with the gold bead material or without it.

All numbers are colored to coordinate with Montessori materials, but if you prefer not to use the colors, printing in black and white works great too.

What I love about this printable pack is that it provides three different ways to practice expanded notation.

If you have a kiddo who doesn't like to write and prefers being given answers to choose from, the clip cards are perfect!

If you have a kiddo who enjoys writing, the second activity included is sure to be a hit!

If you're looking for classic nomenclature style work or a match up of sorts, the third activity is for you.

I love using all three, because I can be sure that the skill is mastered no matter how it's presented.

FREE Fraction Reduction Chart

Reducing fractions can feel quite daunting to some. There are children who love a control or chart to check answers and build confidence.

Dinomite is one of these kids. He wants to see the whole picture and have a guide for understanding concepts he's trying to master.

This is why we created the FREE Fraction Reduction Chart!

FREE Fraction Reduction Chart

FREE Fraction Reduction Chart

The FREE Fraction Reduction Chart works through reducing fractions one-half all the way through nine-tenths multiplying numerators and denominators by two all the way through twelve.

When a student is given a fraction to reduce, they can attempt to reduce it on their own and then check the chart to see if they are correct.

This chart is also a great way to introduce fractions that are equivalent to one another, based on where they're located in the chart.

FREE Countries of Africa Writing Outline

This year the kids expressed interest in learning all about Africa, country by country.  We've studied Africa as a continent several times before, but never broken it down by country.

A study of Africa country by country provided a unique challenge and so many questions.
  • How do I keep things Montessori?
  • How do I use the materials?
  • How do I expand on what the kids already know?
  • How do I teach about each individual country?
This is how the FREE Countries of Africa Writing Outline was born.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we have!

FREE Montessori-inspired Countries of Africa Writing Outline

 Countries of Africa Writing Outline

The Countries of Africa Writing Outline is a three page document that can be used for every country on the continent.

You may choose to complete all three pages, or just choose the ones that match the learning interests of your child.

Source: I created the Countries of Africa Writing Outline. It is a Subscriber's Only Freebie. For your copy follow the directions at the bottom of this post.

Page 1: Country Map Outline

Africa Country Outlines

The first page of the writing outline includes a large square for students to trace the outline of the country from their Montessori Puzzle Map of Africa.  Once the outline is traced students can label and color it the same color as it is on the Montessori Puzzle Map.

If you have a student who loves maps, you can also challenge them to trace the surrounding countries, labeling and coloring those as well.  Oceans can also be colored and labeled.

Page 2: Country Flag and Interesting Facts

The second page of the printable includes a rectangle where students can draw the country flag.  My kids LOVE studying and drawing flags.  This aspect of their country study is definitely a favorite.

Montessori-inspired Africa Printable Pack Bundle

If you're looking for flags to print out in the shape and form of nomenclature cards, the Montessori-inspired Africa Unit Printable Pack Bundle includes them.

Montessori-inspired Countries of Africa Writing Strips

You can also find them in the form of word strips in the Montessori-inspired Countries of Africa Writing Strips printable.

Whichever form you choose to use, I recommend printing, laminating, and placing them on a ring in alphabetical order for easy access and searching abilities.

The second section of the second page is a writing prompt. Students write three interesting facts they've learned about the country.

When our kiddos are learning about each country, they read a section from the book Africa, Amazing Africa: Country by Country by Atinuke.

Africa Amazing Africa: Country by Country

This is a beautifully illustrated book that shares so many interesting facts and tidbits about each country.  Every time we read about a new place we find ourselves looking up even more information online based on questions and conversations we have.  It has been a fantastic learning experience.

Page 3: If I were to visit I would...

The third page of the writing outline is another writing prompt.  Students are asked what they would choose to do, if they visited the country.

I love this aspect of our study as it encourages the kids to not just think about facts, but what they'd like to do.  Learning about the country becomes personal. What if you were able to visit?  It's a great question!

Once students have finished writing their answer to the question, they can draw a picture of their visit in the box provided.  For students who enjoy art, this is a HUGE incentive!

The Countries of Africa Writing Outline is designed for children in a Montessori Elementary classroom, or for those who are more advanced in a Montessori Preschool setting.

It's introduced after continent boxes and other continent studies, including work with the Montessori Puzzle Map of Africa.

FREE Prime Numbers Printable Pack

As we've been working with fractions, I realized my kiddos could really benefit from more practice with prime numbers.  The memorization of prime numbers makes reducing fractions so much easier.

When I started looking around for prime number resources, I realized there were very few out there.

My kiddos usually need a lot of reinforcing and review, so I decided to create the FREE Prime Numbers Printable Pack to help!

FREE Montessori-inspired Prime Numbers Printable Pack

FREE Montessori-inspired Prime Numbers Printable Pack

The FREE Montessori-inspired Prime Numbers Printable Pack includes four activities that can help kids learn and memorize prime numbers.

Prime Number Nomenclature Cards

The first resource is a set of prime number nomenclature cards.  Prime numbers are in red to distinguish from composite numbers.

Students can use these cards the traditional Montessori way or as a memory game. I will be laminating them and putting them together with a ring for control purposes.

Prime Number Clip Cards

Second in the printable pack is a set of clip cards.  My kiddos will decide if each card number is a prime or composite number and mark the correct side of the card using a glass bead.

Prime Number Do-a-Dot Activity

Third in the printable pack is a fill in the dot activity.  Kids use a stamp, glass bead, or other manipulative to mark the circle below the prime number.

Prime Number Hundred Board Activity

Fourth is a hundred board activity where students mark the prime numbers or fill in the blanks depending on which template you choose to use.

It's my hope that through using these activities my kiddos will be able to feel more confident with their prime numbers and more quickly progress through all of our fraction curriculum.

Prime Climb Board Game

Prime Climb Board Game

Many of you know we LOVE to reinforce concepts through board and card games on Friday Game Day in our classroom.

One of our favorite math games is Prime Climb!

Prime Climb is the perfect game for kids who know basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and are learning or reviewing prime numbers.

It is a game the entire family can play together, which we love.

My favorite aspect of the game is the color coding of each circle on the game. Every color stands for something different that really helps children in the process of playing.

If you're looking for some fun while practicing prime numbers, this board game is it!
