I thoroughly hope you're ready to enjoy another installment of A Minimalist Montessori Home Tour. This time we're touring a preteen girl's bedroom.
It gives me great pride to give you a tour of Princess' room. She has gone through so much healing over the years to get to a point where she can enjoy her beautiful room and its belongings, while being safe and happy.
There was a time when Princess could only handle a mattress on the floor with a blanket and pillow and her clothes in her room due to her Reactive Attachment Disorder. She has come such a long way!
A Minimalist Montessori Home Tour: A Preteen Girl's Bedroom
All of our kiddos participate in choosing the color scheme for their bedrooms. Princess' favorite colors are pink and teal. She absolutely loves flamingos, which is the theme of her bedding.
This room is most definitely the smallest bedroom in our home. The closet is home to all of my Montessori materials and luggage. Princess does not use it.
Storage is quite hard to come by in our home so every furniture piece we purchase must have a storage component. Instead of a dresser, which absolutely will not fit in this room, we use under the bed shelves for Princess' clothes. We purchased this bed from PBTeen. It is no longer available.
Three shelves are located on each side of the bed. One side is home to spring and summer clothes. The other side is home to fall and winter clothes. Two pink rope baskets store socks, underwear, bathing suits, and other under clothes.
Shoes are stored in a hanging shoe organizer. This was purchased from Amazon but is not available at this time.
Instead of a desk, which will not fit in Princess' room, she has a lap desk which she uses regularly. The lap desk itself actually has storage as well.
Princess stores her LEGO collection, arts and crafts, and other personal belongings in soft teal bins located on the cubby shelves in the picture above. These items were purchased from PBTeen but are no longer available. Princess uses the top of her cubbies as a hard surface for LEGO play.
Above her cubbies, Princess has a white board. Drawing and writing is very therapeutic for Princess. When she's having a hard time, her white board provides her with a safe way to cope with feelings. We use Washable Crayola White Board Markers in her room, so I don't have to worry if Princess decides to use them inappropriately.
The white board is also magnetic. When Princess doesn't use it for writing and drawing, she uses it to display artwork.

The wall adjacent to the cubbies is home to Princess' shelf with hooks where she stores her towels, sweatshirts and hats.
On the shelf she stores LEGO figures and accessories as well as one of her favorite MEGA CONSTRUX creations.
Next to Princess' bed is her self-care area where she stores toiletry items, jewelry and hair accessories. There's also a place to store her favorite journals and drawing books.
Below the jewelry and hair accessory storage is Princess' dirty laundry basket.
On the other side of the bed, behind the bedroom door is a Princess' secret library. This is one of Princess' favorite features of her room, as it really is hidden unless the bedroom door is shut.
Princess LOVES to read and does so daily. To have her own library means everything to her.
And there you have it! A preteen girl's room doesn't have to be large to be beautiful. A teenager doesn't have to have more material possessions their her friend to feel good about themselves.
