In our home, the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ is the center of our Christmas celebration.
Each year, as we decorate for the holidays, we review the reason for the season using this symbols of Christmas activity and free printable. It helps us remember why we choose to be so festive.
Symbols of Christmas Activity and Free Printable
This activity is quite simple. I've used it at church and at home with my children.
Materials Needed for Symbols of Christmas Activity
You will need the following items:
Symbols of Christmas Activity Option 1
When working with younger children each item is placed in a separate gift box, which is then wrapped.
If I'm working with a small group, I'll include one item for each child in every box. All wrapped gift boxes are then placed under the tree.
The kiddos take turn selecting a box to open. As they pull out what's inside, we read the corresponding cards from the printable. Once finished, they are able to place the symbol of Christmas on the tree.
The printable can be turned into a beautiful book for children to take home as well.
Symbols of Christmas Activity Option 2
When I've done this activity with older children in church, I have divided each page of the printable into two cards.
I then lay out all of them face down as a memory game. As the kiddos find a match, they are able to hang the correct symbol on the tree. The symbols are not wrapped for this scenario.
We love the Christmas spirit that's brought into our home as we do this activity each year.
Understanding the symbols of Christmas relative to the Savior's birth adds such a wonderful feelings of peace and joy during the holiday season.
